“As an artist I have always felt that my task is not to create meaning but to charge the air so that meaning can occur.”
Todd Hido will be conducting a 5-day workshop at the French chateau of La Salle in the beautiful wine region of Burgundy. The location is the perfect backdrop for a workshop with Hido, whose photography is famed for the atmosphere of suspense, islolation and mystery.
Todd Hido is an American photographer based in San Francisco. Hido’s photographs are fictitious documents that evoke mystery, intrigue and suspense set in the nocturnal American landscape of hotel rooms, suburbia and empty roads shrouded in the seductive glow of artificial light. These highly charged and atmospheric narratives depict a sensibility of alienation and acknowledge the influence of some great artists and film-makers from Edward Hopper to Alfred Hitchcock. Hido’s work has been featured in many magazines including Artforum, The New York Times Magazine, Wired, FOAM and Vanity Fair. His photographs are in the permanent collections of the Getty, the Whitney Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum, New York and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
